What Our Cat Parents Are Saying
Common Cat Insurance Questions
Can I use Pets Best pet insurance at any vet?
Yes! Pets Best covers eligible veterinary care at any licensed veterinary office in the US and Canada, including specialty and emergency clinics. You pay your vet directly, then submit a claim for reimbursement. There’s no network to worry about, so you can stick with the vet you already trust.
Is cat insurance worth it?
For many pet parents, cat insurance is worth it because it helps cover the cost of unexpected vet bills from accidents, illnesses, and chronic conditions. Treatments for issues like urinary blockages or dental disease can quickly reach hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Insurance can reimburse a significant portion, helping you say yes to recommended care without financial strain.
Learn more about the benefits and real-world costs in this guide: Why cat insurance is worth the cost.
Is pet insurance worth it for an indoor cat?
Yes! Though your indoor kitty may be protected from the dangers of the outdoors, they are still prone to accidents and illnesses. Unexpected health issues like diabetes, urinary tract disease, digestive problems, or even swallowing something they shouldn't can happen at any time, and a single emergency vet visit can cost thousands. Enrolling early is especially smart, since it helps avoid pre-existing condition exclusions down the road and generally gets you the best rates. Read more about why pet insurance is worth it for indoor cats.
Does Pets Best offer senior cat insurance?
Yes! Pets Best has no upper age limits, so you can enroll your cat regardless of their age. Once enrolled, your coverage won’t be reduced simply because your cat gets older. While pre-existing conditions are not eligible for coverage, senior cat insurance can help provide financial protection for new health issues that may develop later in life, including conditions such as cancer, heart disease, and kidney disease. Pet insurance for older cats can be especially valuable as veterinary needs often increase with age.
When is the best time to buy cat insurance?
The best time to enroll is as early as possible, ideally when your cat is young and healthy. You can enroll your kitten as young as 7 weeks of age, and enrolling early helps you get the best rates and ensures that any conditions your cat develops after enrollment are eligible for coverage. Since pet insurance doesn't cover pre-existing conditions, getting a policy in place before any health issues arise gives your kitty the most protection possible.
Are there any cat breed restrictions or breed exclusions?
Nope! Pets Best does not exclude any cat breeds from coverage. Whether you have a Maine Coon, a Siamese, a Sphynx, or a beloved domestic shorthair, your cat is eligible for a Pets Best plan.
What isn’t covered by Pets Best cat insurance?
Like all pet insurance plans, Pets Best has some exclusions to help keep premiums affordable. Pre-existing conditions are generally excluded, though certain curable conditions may become eligible for coverage after they have fully healed and are symptom free. Routine or elective procedures, parasite prevention and treatment, grooming, prescription diets, and alternative or experimental therapies are also not covered. For full details, see our coverage page.
