How Pets Best’s Refer a Friend Program Helps Nonprofits
When you refer a friend to Pets Best, you're not only helping another pet parent protect their dog or cat with pet insurance, you're also helping support organizations that improve the lives of dogs and cats and those who love them. We donate $25 to one of our chosen nonprofit partners every time somebody uses a referral link to get a quote for our pet insurance.
Through our Refer a Friend (RAF) program, Pets Best customers have helped us donate $118,848 in 2026 so far, split evenly among three incredible nonprofit organizations: Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary, American Humane Society, and Canine Companions.
Since the program began in the summer of 2022, we've donated $566,289 and counting to organizations making a lasting impact in communities across the country. We’re grateful to every customer who has shared Pets Best with friends and family—your referrals truly make a difference.
2026 Donations Making an Impact
So far this year, each of our nonprofit partners has received $39,616 through the Pets Best Refer a Friend program. Here's a look at how those donations are helping.
Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary
Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary provides lifelong care for blind, feline leukemia (FeLV)-positive, and FIV-positive cats that often have nowhere else to go and would likely face euthanasia due to their conditions. Rather than placing cats for adoption, the sanctuary becomes their forever home. Cats live in spacious, enriched rooms designed for their specific needs, with FeLV-positive cats housed separately to protect the other cats. They enjoy cozy places to nap, toys, catios for safe outdoor time, daily interaction with caregivers and volunteers, and regular veterinary care. As the organization celebrates more than 20 years of caring for special-needs cats, it's raising funds for a new facility that will provide a safer, healthier home for current and future residents.
One cat whose life has been transformed is Aza. Rescued from an overcrowded sanctuary, Aza arrived frightened and withdrawn after experiencing significant trauma. With patience, veterinary care, and a safe environment, she has blossomed into a happy, affectionate cat who now enjoys spending time with people and her fellow feline companions.
American Humane Society
The American Humane Society works to improve the lives of animals through rescue efforts, disaster response, advocacy, pet adoption support, education, and community outreach.
One of the many ways American Humane Society is making a difference is through its Rescue program, which responds to animals affected by disasters and emergencies across the country. During the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, the organization's rescue team helped transport more than 340 animals to partner shelters, conducted over 1,660 welfare checks in evacuation zones, and reunited more than 1,060 animals with their families.
One of those reunions was Maxwell the cat. After wildfires forced his family to evacuate without him, Maxwell was missing for two weeks before being found frightened and alone among the ruins of his home. American Humane Society's rescue team provided him with immediate veterinary care, a wellness check, and the supplies he needed to recover, giving Maxwell and his family the happy reunion they had been hoping for.
Canine Companions
Since 1975, Canine Companions has provided expertly trained service dogs at no cost to children, adults, veterans, and professionals working in healthcare, education, and criminal justice. These highly trained dogs help increase independence, confidence, and quality of life for people with disabilities across all 50 states.
One life changed through Canine Companions is Army veteran David Medina, who was injured during a 2010 mission in Iraq, leaving him with physical injuries, a traumatic brain injury, hearing loss, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). After being matched with his first Canine Companions service dog, David regained much of the independence he had lost. Today, his second service dog, Kellen, helps him manage PTSD symptoms by interrupting anxiety and creating space in crowded environments, allowing David to attend his daughters' school events, enjoy kayaking and cycling, and participate more fully in everyday life.
