How Often Should I Brush My Dog's Teeth?

 |

Hi. I'm Dr. Fiona Caldwell, I'm a veterinarian at Idaho Veterinarian Hospital. I'm answering questions from the Pets Best Insurance Facebook page today. This one comes from Diane who asks, "How many times a week should I brush my dog's teeth?" This is a great question. I love that you're thinking about keeping your pet's mouth healthy because it's really important for their overall health, and brushing is the best way that you're going to be able to remove plaque and keep that plaque from turning into tartar. My answer is going to be as often as you can. We probably should be all brushing our dog's teeth daily. I know that's hard to do. It's a time commitment. Dogs don't always love it. But if you can do it as often as possible, at least every other day, a couple times a week, even if you're doing it once a week, it's going to better than nothing. Here's an video demo of how to brush your dog's teeth. Do you have a question for one of our Pets Best Insurance veterinarian guest bloggers?
